About
As part of the education and learning JavaScript, WordPress, and SEO we decided to Redesign a website we personally found to be out of touch with modern Website design. We chose Itch.io. Most of the team have either heard or used itch before, but even the seasoned user could get confused with the design. As there where no rules on the site, tags and genres is ever expanding, so a traditional game distributor layout wasn’t possible, so we needed inspiration elsewhere.
Purpose
This website is a distributor of generally everything digitally creative but best known for as a game distributor where everyone can upload their game without a paywall or restrictions and therefore loved by many communities.
Work
We started by testing the original website to make sure it wasn’t just the team that found Itch.io hard to traverse. After confirmation we began to make a wireframe and build up the website. The challenge was to add games easily to the lists, so it kept its design, which is inspired by music distributors like Spotify. The primary work was making banners that would automatically switch after a predetermined time with JavaScript and learning how to optimise with SEO.
