About

Maskless Games – A starting indie game company that wanted to show off the reality of LGBTQIA+ people’s lives, with artistic styles and stories. As part of the company, I was in charge of Designing, building and maintain the official website. As a small company the website had to be unique. It had to be blog like a blog and with a fun childlike art style.

Purpose

Maskless Games was a small indie company run by only a few people. As the team wanted to make games focusing on serious situations experienced by people who are treated worse than the general population. The first game had a focus on transpeople as multiple team members were trans and the situation for this minority has become worse. As this is very intimate for the team, we wanted led followers know everything about the game. Therefore, the site was set up to show who the team were and share everything possible about every change to the games.

Work

This website was made before any official education in Graphic- or Web Design. I started by doing research into blogs and game company sites. After I generated a lot of inspiration I started to learn WordPress. We wanted a mostly code free solution to make blog posting easier for people who might not have experience with websites.

Homepage

Games page

The first thing we wanted was the homepage to be flashy. The banner is hand drawn using Autodesk Sketch with the use of the pencil setting. Using pencil strokes, it gives a much more like a quick sketch that we couldn’t let go off. We used the main character asset to add movement as well as the logo moving in from the left to act as the M in Maskless Games. The latest posts about the game and the company were shown just below the banner.

After finishing the homepage banner, we decided to make a story with the banners. We decided that the next banner should be a dungeon as it was originally a part of the original plan for the game. The games page only showed off one game: A Deadnamed Heart. Here we showed screenshots of game mechanics with blurbs to each of them. We wanted to show what the story was about and the unique art style and use a small amount of text to hype up the game.

Blog Page

About Page

The Story banner progresses. The main character meets an enemy in the dungeon. The enemy were a game asset too. This site was the archive for all blog posts the company would be making. That way it was possible for followers to read posts they missed or even hold us up on everything we said. It was designed to automatically update whenever a new post was created.

The banner gets a lot of crystals as they have their own meaning in the story of the game. With the About page, we wanted to show who the team was. First a small information dump about the company and then a description for each team member. We disclosed names, pronouns, jobs and small things about ourselves.
